Meet NYC Finalist #2 - Wilbur Pack, Jr. Wilbur Pack, Jr. is the owner, maker, and creative force behind SK WiLBUR bags, a home based Brooklyn NY business. Inspired by graffiti art and motivated by pop culture, the brand’s handcrafted accessories are bold and witty, yet serve as subtle social and political statements. Modern in its approach to design, the bags are inclusive and created to empower ALL Black people - women, men, members of the LGBTQIA + community, etc. by utilizing motifs of Black culture, hashtags, and artwork. The bags are a reflection of the joys, struggles, and ultimately the triumphs of Black people that uplift and inspire, but also provide a very pragmatic solution to carrying your "stuff." A portion of sales is donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to improving Black lives. Since Black history is sorely lacking in our school curriculums, SK WiLBUR has now set its sights on launching a line of backpacks for middle school age kids called B.Brave by SK WiLBUR that will feature images of Black History icons. B. BRAVE backpacks will feature a QR code hangtag that, when scanned, would take the young person to an online platform to learn more about the featured Black icon. The hangtags would be collectible items sold with or without the backpacks. This endeavor will be sold at big box retailers and are being manufactured in large quantities.
