What do Silicon Valley and Tulsa, Oklahoma have in common? More than you could ever imagine. Over the past one hundred years both have been home to entrepreneurial multi-millionaires. And though comparatively fewer have heard about The Greenwood District in Tulsa, otherwise known as “Black Wall Street;” Anthony Frasier showcases how the fabric of this once vibrant ecosystem laid the groundwork for innovation and growth all over the United States. Inspired by his predecessors in Oklahoma, Frasier’s TEDx weaves a story of a determined entrepreneur from Tulsa to Newark, who would eventually co-found The Phat Startup and breathe new life into a U.S. community. "Anthony Frasier is the co-Founder of The Phat Startup, a media company that produces resources for entrepreneurs. His work has been featured on CNN Money, Forbes, Black Enterprise, and Black In America. Frasier was also named an innovator by AT&T which led to a spot that aired to millions weekly and was praised by The Washington Post. A serial entrepreneur, Frasier founded the startup Playd and award-winning gaming site, The Koalition. Frasier is actively involved in Newark, NJ, helping aspiring entrepreneurs. His initiatives have been recognized by the Business Outreach Center and he was granted the Award for Community Impact in 2012." Black farmers once made up 14 percent of America's farmers. Today, black farmers account for less than 2 percent. One of them, fourth-generation sugar cane farmer Wenceslaus 'June' Provost Jr., is fighting to maintain his family's farming legacy. June and his family were once part of the 1999 Pigford lawsuit, a massive class-action suit brought against the USDA alleging discriminatory practices. The case resulted in the largest settlement in U.S. government history and an admission of wrongdoing by the USDA. But June and his wife Angie say discrimination based on race still permeates the industry today, and allege continued discriminatory practices by their lender has pushed them out of farming and have cost them their home. * SUBSCRIBE to NBC LEFT FIELD: http://nbcnews.to/2rAQzwx * Watch the latest from NBC LEFT FIELD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8tG3hlHcPg&list=PLmWVE4PP8w5Urph0JyLjmQInFXxtgOMBT What is NBC LEFT FIELD? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yh0j6zMWCI&list=PLmWVE4PP8w5UEOKp7cxAEqxNgaZ8EUSDs FOLLOW NBC LEFT FIELD: Facebook: http://nbcnews.to/2rACLSM Instagram: http://nbcnews.to/2rAsQwp Twitter: http://nbcnews.to/2rAsWUN VISIT OUR SITE: http://nbcleftfield.com Video journalist Haimy Assefa Animation Titan Post Additional footage Getty __ ABOUT NBC LEFT FIELD: NBC Left Field is a new internationally-minded video troupe that makes short, creative documentaries and features specially designed for social media and set-top boxes.
